BEARCAT SCHOLARSHIP: Applications will be accepted until April 7 for the Beech Bottom Bearcat Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded each year to a Brooke High School graduate who began their education at Beech Bottom Primary and are continuing their education at a 2- or 4-year program. When Beech Bottom Primary was closed, the council voted to establish this scholarship as a way for the graduating seniors to know that even though the school is closed, the village still remembers them. This year’s recipient will receive $1000.00 at BHS Awards Program on May 15. Please contact your BHS counselor for an application. Remember, applications must be received by students guidance counselor by April 7th. Make it Shine Day: Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 5 for our annual Make it Shine Day. On this day volunteers will canvass all public areas of the town for trash, litter, etc. and make our town SHINE after this long, hard winter. Volunteers will meet in the lower shelter on Third Street Playground at 10:00 am to receive your supplies and assignments. Clean up will end at 11:30 with a free pizza lunch for all volunteers. DUMPSTER DAY: The spring Dumpster Day will be held on Saturday, April 12. Start collecting your garbage when doing your spring cleaning and use our free dumpster service! FYI, our maintenance crew will not be permitted to enter your house OR yard to collect your garbage. You must have your garbage bagged and, if unable to take to dumpster yourself, set bags on the curb in front of your house for pickup. Thanks for understanding. Dumpsters are scheduled to be delivered on Friday, April 11 and will again be placed across Rt. 2 from village garage. As long asdumpsters are in place and not full you may continue to use them. DO NOT place any garbage on ground. Representatives from the village and council met recently with the horticulturist from Oglebay Park and a representative from WVU Extension Office. The group discussed many things and walked many of our streets. This group will be hosting a meeting sometime in May in the Beech Bottom Fire Dept. to meet with all the interested residents and discuss tree planting. The council was advised the proper time for replanting is in the fall. The group has decided to choose multiple types of trees that are appropriate for each street and the residents of each street will decide on which trees they prefer for their location. The date and time of the town meeting will be announced in the May newsletter. Village of Beech Bottom Fire Department will be continuing their annual Fish Fry through Friday, April 18. Food is available from 11 am until 7 pm. Come out and support the Fire Department. RESIDENTS: PLEASE REMEMBER THERE IS A LEASH LAW IN THE VILLAGE OF BEECH BOTTOM THAT PERTAINS TO DOGS AND CATS. LEASHES MUST BE USED FOR DOGS AND CATS LEAVING YOUR PROPERTY AND ALL FECES MUST BE REMOVED FROM VILLAGE STREETS, SIDEWALKS, ETC. BY THE PET OWNER.
